Definition

The term Wilshire 2500 Growth Index refers to a composite that includes small and large capitalization companies located in the United States that also exhibit growth characteristics.  The Wilshire 2500 Growth is published and maintained by Wilshire Associates.

Explanation

The Wilshire 2500 Index consists of the companies in the Wilshire 5000 that rank in the top 2500 positions in terms of market capitalization.  It is a composite of both the Wilshire US Small Cap Index and the Wilshire US Large Cap Index.  At the time of writing, there were 1,380 companies in this index. The securities placed in the index exhibit growth characteristics as determined by their projected price-to-earnings ratio, projected earnings growth, price-to-book ratio, dividend yield, trailing revenue growth, and trailing earnings growth. First published in 1996, the index is rebalanced every six months. The Wilshire 2500 Growth is a float-adjusted, market capitalization-weighted index.
