Federal Family Education Loan Program

The Federal Family Education Loan Program or FFEL includes Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans, Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), and Federal Consolidation Loans.

Under the FFEL Program, loans are funded by private lenders, guaranteed by guarantors, and reinsured by the federal government.  Once a FFEL Program loan is made, it will be managed and collected by the lender or agency that holds the loan.  This can be a private lender such as a bank, credit union, or savings and loan association.
