Social Skills

Social Skills are a proficiency in finding common ground with others, and building rapport.  Leaders with social skills are able to build vast personal networks, and are usually experts in managing relationships.  Social skills are one of the five dimensions of emotional intelligence, as described by Daniel Goleman.  The other four dimensions of emotional intelligence include:  motivation, self awareness, empathy, and self regulation.

Leaders with social skills are characterized by their effectiveness in leading change through the management of relationships.  These leaders are also very good at leveraging the networks they have in place to put together effective teams.  Finally, because of the close relationships they have built with others, they can be a very persuasive member of the workforce.
