Resume Format

A Resume Format will differ depending on the work history and experience of the job seeker.  Therefore, the best resume format to use is one that will produce the best marketing results as demonstrated through interviews.

There are three mainstream resume formats in use today - chronological resumes, functional resumes and combination resumes.  While each of these may present slightly different information, the major components of each format include:

  • Objective Statement - a brief statement of career and position objectives that are usually aligned with the position to which the application is applying.
  • Summary of Qualifications - a brief statement summarizing all of the important qualifications the applicant possesses.
  • Skills - the resume should include a listing of the skills that the application has acquired over the course of their career.
  • Accomplishments - an important section of a resume, the accomplishments demonstrate how the applicant used their skills to get things done.
  • Work Experience - a brief listing of companies and positions held by the applicant, usually presented in reverse chronological order.
  • Education - a listing of the educational degrees the applicant has received, year of receipt and the name of the institution.
  • References - sometimes listed on resumes using a simple statement like - Resumes will be Furnished Upon Request.
