Mentoring is often described as a workplace partnership that occurs between two people that gives employees the opportunity to share their professional and personal skills and experiences. Mentoring typically takes place between a more seasoned or experienced leader - the mentor - and a less experienced employee - the protégé. The mentoring relationship is based upon support, helpful comments, honesty, trust, respect and an enthusiasm to learn and share.
Formal mentoring programs are becoming more popular in larger organizations since it enables the sharing of best practices and the spread of intellectual capital across an organization.
