An Exit Interview is sometimes conducted with employees after they've announced their resignation from a company. The interview is usually held with a member of the human resources department, with the hope that dialog will be open and honest.
Exit interviews can be part of the normal process of leaving a company, or they can be used to gather specific information when a problem might exist within a department. For example, if a large proportion of employees begin to leave a department, it may indicate a widespread problem at that location. The exit interview would attempt to figure out why employees are leaving.
Unlike other job interviews, which are used to select candidates for an opening within a company, the exit interview is a form of marketing research. The results are often used to make process corrections within a department. The ultimate objective of the exit interview is to retain valuable employees in the future. |
