Cover Letter Body

The Cover Letter Body is where the job applicant takes the opportunity to explain to the reader why they are contacting the company and to emphasize their achievements.  The body of the cover letter is also a good place to include an objective statement that the applicant has written.

The cover letter body or middle paragraphs of the cover letter should tell the recruiter or potential employer why the applicant deserves an interview for a job and what they have achieved over the course of their career.  It is important to leave options open when writing the body of the cover letter - in case other opportunities at the company are available.  This means that the cover letter body should be written such that the applicant might be considered for several types of job openings.

Below is an example of what might be included in the cover body:

I am bringing to your attention my achievements, leadership skills, industry knowledge, and keen ability to produce bottom line results so that we can discuss my joining Company XYZ as a key member of you manufacturing team.

Accomplishments include:

  • While acting as Plant Manager, managed a team of eight associates that were successful in launching five Six Sigma process improvement initiatives aimed at the area of operational efficiency.  Bottom line benefit to the company exceeded $5 million.

The body or second paragraph is one of three components that should be included in the cover letter text.  The other components are introductory paragraph and the closing paragraph.
