Chronological Resumes are one of the three mainstream types of resume formats used today. The other formats being functional resumes and combination resumes. A chronological resume is organized by job titles, which are listed in reverse chronological order. Potential employers or recruiters often prefer a chronological resume because the format is very efficient in explaining past work history.
- The advantage of chronological resumes is that they highlight more recent job experiences, which might be applicable to the position being pursued, and allow the potential employer to easily follow career progression.
- The primary disadvantage of chronological resumes is that if you have a gap in your career history, or a seemingly illogical career progression, this is highlighted in the format.
