Filling Out Job Applications
We've already thoroughly covered the topic of completing a job application. In our article on Filling Out Job Applications, we explain why employers use job applications, what types of information are gathered via job applications, and provide you with some helpful hints and tips on filling out an application.
If we had to summarize the information provided in that particular article it is simply this:
- Job applications are used by companies to ensure that consistent information is gathered from all applicants.
- When applying for a job, you need to carefully follow all directions on the application. That includes both completing all of the sections with the required information and tailoring your answers to the job for which you are applying.
- The answers you provide on an application should always be truthful. People lose their jobs all the time because they lied on their job application.
In our article on filling out job applications, we also discussed the types of information that you might want to bring with you to help fill out these forms. Even thought all of that information is helpful as an introduction to the job application process, it's also useful to see exactly what a job application looks like - and to practice filling one out.
Job Application Form
To help you visualize exactly what a job application looks like, we've put together a sample job application form. As is the case with all of the samples we provide on this website, this generic job application form is free for you to download. Our example form is a Word document that is a fully functional and printable job application that has been modeled after real world applications.
That means our sample application will look very much like one that you'd be asked to fill out during an actual job interview or when visiting a company to apply for a job. It's also quite detailed, our application asks the job applicant to supply some nineteen different types of information including:
- Educational Background - the schools you've attended, including high school and college.
- Work Experience - the places where you've worked in the past - very similar in format to what you would have included in your resume.
- Job Skills - the important job skills you're acquired during your career.
- References - people that you've worked with in the past that you are confident can accurately assess your skills and potential.
- Licenses Held - this includes professional certifications such as a Certified Public Accountant as well as licensing such as in the engineering field.
- Job Duties - your roles and responsibilities for each job held.
- Reasons for Leaving - you may need to explain why you left each job.
- Work Start Dates - the timeframe when you'll be available to report to work if offered a job.
- Job Application Certification Statements - this is a statement certifying that you've filled out the application truthfully.
If you're nervous about filling out an application and you want to practice using a blank application, go right ahead. If you're one of those persons that need to visualize what an application looks like, just go ahead and print ours out and have a look for yourself.
A lot of the information you're required to fill out on job application forms can be taken directly from your resume. No one is going to penalize you for coming prepared - and that includes pulling out your resume to help you fill out the application.
